Private House, MilngavieWhilst the 'public' rooms of this period house were nicely sized and proportioned the more functional spaces were small and poorly connected. They just didn't suit modern family life. The owners also desired an additional bedroom for guests.
By moving the downstairs wc underneath the stairs it was possible to remove several of the original load bearing walls to create the desired open plan kitchen/ dining/ family space. The majority of work however was carried out underneath the original accomodation. Located on a slope there was a large solum which at the rear of the house was almost high enough to be a room. This dark unused space was further excavated and supporting walls underpinned in order to create a bright, generous bedroom with patio doors to the garden as well as an adjoining shower room. Project completed under previous employment at 3DReid. |
